The home study is a detailed written report of your family compiled and prepared by a social worker who is certified by the State of Ohio as a Home Study Assessor. The home study requires the perspective adoptive family to gather various documents, answer several questions, and explore their reasons for adopting. Through a series of visits and interviews the Home Study Assessor can get a a complete picture of who you are and what life is like in your family. The home study is a part of the decision making process. Not only can the home study help the agency place a child into your home who would best fit into your family, but help the family and the agency decide if now is a good time for your family to adopt.

What makes up a home study:

A home study includes evaluations of the adoptive parents' relationship and motivation to adopt, discussions with all family members, inspections of their residence, parenting values and practices, medical history, employment verification, guardianship plan, financial status, personal references, and criminal background checks.
